Revenge Factor:  Always important when we are talking about good teams meeting one another.  The Minnesota Vikings lost a heart breaker against the New Orleans Saints that kept them out of the Super Bowl last season.  With odds set at just +5 at Sportsbook.com, you better believe the Vikings have a serious edge here.

Line Moves:  While the Saints are getting more than 75 percent of the action, the online bookies are not inclined to get equal action on the Packers, suggesting they have a strong opinion that Green Bay can cover here.  Let’s face it, should New Orleans win by more than 5 points Thursday evening, the folks from Sportsbook.com will be kicking themselves.  Edge here is on the Vikings.

Past History:  Despite a 3 point overtime loss last season, the Vikings have owned this series over the last 5.  When weighing this factor we must consider that New Orleans has been an atrocious team prior to 2007.  In 2008, Minnesota won on the road by a mere 3 points.  The Vikings still have an edge here.  Only once, in 2001, have the Saints beaten Minnesota by more than the current spread.  The Vikings get the nod from me.

Injuries:  Well, Brett Favre’s ankle is still questionable. Sidney Rice is out for multiple weeks and so too is Percy Harvin.  The Rice injury is certainly a key factor in pushing that line up, but injuries are always factored into any line and often inflated.  New Orleans has an important edge here.

Trends:  When reviewing the Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints game trends for both teams, Minnesota has mostly neutral trends.  The Saints on the other hand have a few trends going against them.  They are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 vs. NFC and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.  Not enough to give either team the edge however.

I agree we could have a situation where Brett Favre is not quite the same playing on that thrice surgically repaired ankle.  The underlying conditions remain despite any injections Favre may be getting.  I’m still inclined to pick the Vikings at +5, crossing my fingers that Favre will be just fine.
