It should come as no surprise that when Sportsbook.com broke away from the Cake Poker network that they would lose a good chunk of their customer base.  Sportsbook.com is after all the largest North American facing online sports betting company in terms of overall customer volume.

But Cake Poker has been aggressive since that time in bringing on new card rooms.  This past week the popular poker network, which is giving away $600 in free cash to new customers plus the opportunity for a $500 free roll, welcomed an impressive five new brands into the fold: Broadway Tables, PokerXRC, WingsPoker, Unleashed Poker, and Come On.

PokerScout.com had Cake Poker averaging around 900 “real cash” players over the past week.  The 24-hour peak on Tuesday had nearly 1400 “real cash” players.   That is around a mere 500 less than their peak of approximately 2000 when Sportsbook.com was still on board.

“Cake Poker is expected to move over that 2000 threshold over the course of the next 6 months assuming the current pace of new online poker room signups and the continued growth of flagship brand DoylesRoom.com,” expressed Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor and Marketing Director of the Gambling911.com website.

O’Brien notes that both Cake Poker and DoylesRoom.com have invested heavily in marketing over the last several months.  Both advertise on the Gambling911.com site.

Although Cake has temporarily been knocked out of its number 10 spot in terms of global online poker rooms “real cash player” customers, they would regain that spot if today’s numbers were used.  Everest, which averaged just over 1000 “real cash” players for the week, currently held the number 10 spot.  Cake Poker only had around 200 less “real cash” online poker players than Everest as per the weekly average.
