Legalized No-Limit high stakes poker in the state of Florida could attract more pros while other new laws could scare off pot smokers

Good news poker fans in the state of Florida and quite possibly those across the globe.

A new state law (SB 622) makes no-limit poker legal at all 23 state-sanctioned poker rooms.  Previously the betting limit had been $5 with a $100 maximum buy-in for cash games.

The anticipated impact is that such high-stakes poker rules will attract professional players from around the world and television tournaments could also find Florida lucrative, just as they do Vegas right now.

The changes were included in the blackjack gambling deal with the Seminole Indian tribe and players can credit Governor Charlie Crist, who is currently running as an Independent for state Senator.

Along with the new poker law comes a few hundred more including a bong law that prohibits the sale of bongs unless they are sold in a shop that gets 75 percent of its revenue from tobacco, cigar and cigarette sales.

This is the so-called "bong bill" that aims at shutting down specialty shops that sell water pipes and bongs that are often lumped in with drug paraphernalia.

Other laws include subjecting horse killers to third-degree felony charges if found in possession of horse meat, forcing condo renters to pay maintenance fees if owner is delinquent or face being evicted, and eliminating statue of limitations for sexual battery of minors, a law opposed by the Catholic Church we might add.
