This game goes off Sunday, 2:30 pm Eastern - ABC

Mexico and Argentina meet on Sunday in the round of 16 with Argentina heavily favored to advance.  Diego Maradona's team has been very impressive so far in the World Cup winning all three of their matches to top Group B.  Mexico was able to finish second in Group A behind Uruguay to make the knockout round.

Argentina is a one-goal favorite at SBG Global.

The three-way line favors Argentina as they are -200 while Mexico is +520 with the Draw at +300. The total on the match is 2.5 with the under at -140.  Four years ago in the World Cup it was Mexico and Argentina doing battle in the round of 16 and Argentina came away with a 1-0 victory as Maxi Rodriguez scored in extra time.  Argentina went out in their next match as they lost to Germany in the quarterfinals. Mexico and Argentina know each other well and Argentina has had the advantage.  They have 11 wins compared to just four for Mexico. The teams have played to ten draws.

Argentina has looked good in the World Cup and now they are the second choice to win the World Cup behind Brazil.  Argentina has a powerful attack led by the best player in the world, Lionel Messi.  They have also played well defensively and that will be a key against a Mexico team that likes to push the pace. Mexico is hoping to have Arsenal striker Carlos Vela available for this match. He was hurt in the 2-0 win over France and missed the last match against Uruguay but he was training on Thursday so he could be available. Mexico really needs Vela since they scored only three goals in their three group matches. If Mexico is to win they must put pressure on Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Argentina has a number of players who can score in addition to Messi.  Gonzalo Higuain scored a hat-trick against South Korea and Carlos Tevez is always capable of scoring a goal. Messi has not even scored a goal in the World Cup although he has set up quite a few and been very dangerous. He could find a lot of space against a Mexico team that likes to play fast and loose.

This match can be seen on ABC on Sunday beginning at 2:30 pm Eastern time.
