The main World Cup stories of the morning Wednesday outside of which team was actually destined to win revolved around yet another goal being disallowed for team USA while Jermain Defoe managed to get England its first goal of the 2010 World Cup.

A previous disallowed goal would have allowed the US to move up 3-2 in its comeback game against Slovenia and most certainly they would have moved to the next round.

In the 22nd minute, a USA cross that led to a goal was disallowed -- not the actual goal itself.  A replay seemed to show that the US team should be up 1-0 in the first half.

Meanwhile, Jermain Defoe was being celebrated throughout England after he scored the first goal for his team in this year's World Cup.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker stabbed the ball past Samir Handanovic from close range after a terrific cross from James Milner.

England v. Slovenia and USA v. Algeria were being played at the same time.  England looked as if they would be heading into the next round throughout much of Wednesday's play with no goals being scored in the USA v. Algeria match.

Both England and USA were heavily favored in their respective matchups.
