Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Will Switch to Temporary Smoke-Free Casino Friday

A new temporary “smoke-free experience” is coming to Tampa’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino as renovations begin in the casino. The temporary gaming space, called the Hard Rock Event Center Casino, officially opens Friday, Sept. 25. It features 682 new slot machines and 34 table games including the uber popular Dragon Link slot, Blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Three Card Poker, Mississippi Stud, and Roulette.

Polymarket Sued By New York AG

Governor Kathy Hochul and New York Attorney General Letitia James today announced a lawsuit against QCX LLC d/b/a Polymarket US (Polymarket) for running an illegal gambling operation in New York through its prediction market platform. Polymarket launched in the United States in December 2025 as a service that allowed users to bet money on the outcome of sporting events, promising users “sports — followed by markets on everything.” An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) found that Polymarket’s prediction market is an illegal, unlicensed gambling operation that exposes New Yorkers — including those under the legal gambling age of 21 — to serious personal and financial risk. The lawsuit is seeking a court order stopping Polymarket from operating as an unlicensed gambling business and requiring the company to pay fines, forfeit all illegal gains and pay restitution to users. “I will always stand up for New Yorkers when bad corporate actors prey on consumers and threaten tax dollars that fund schools and critical public services,” Governor Hochul said. “By running an unlicensed gambling operation, Polymarket has done more than just knowingly violate state law, they have put New Yorkers at risk, especially those underage who are most vulnerable to problem gaming. Nobody is above the law in our state, and working with Attorney General James, we are fighting to protect New Yorkers and put this illegal operation to an end.” Attorney General Letitia James said, “Our gambling laws exist to protect New Yorkers, prevent the potential harms of problem gambling, and ensure funding for educational and public benefit programs. By skirting New York’s laws, Polymarket is targeting the most vulnerable and depriving New York families of critical services and support. My office will never hesitate to take action to defend our laws and keep New Yorkers safe.”

The two heavyweights are set to finally meet in the ring for one of the biggest fights in British boxing history, which will be broadcast on Netflix. Saudi Arabian boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh announced the fight Thursday. "For 15 years no one has been able to make this fight," he wrote on social media. "Back in April, I said that any announcement would come from me. I can now confirm that Fury Vs Joshua will be coming to the UK, as I promised British boxing fans. The time for talking is over..." PitchBook produced a 46-page analysis estimating three possible valuations for Kalshi: $22.8 billion in a bear case, $30.4 billion as its base case, and $42.1 billion in a bullish scenario. It projects revenue could reach $6.4 billion by 2030, with about $3.7 billion in adjusted earnings. Kalshi raised $1 billion in May at a $22 billion valuation and investors are reportedly considering an IPO as soon as next year. The potential pitfall is its reliance on sports contracts, which account for approximately 69.9% of its business. increasing to 82.4% when exotic/multi-leg markets are included. That makes the ongoing legal fight over whether Kalshi's sports contracts amount to unlicensed sports betting extremely important to its valuation. Though they have had some success, most of the cases have gone in favor of the states to date. Fortune notes that conflicting appellate rulings have created a circuit split, making a Supreme Court showdown widely expected next year.

Connecticut Former Funeral Director Who Gambled Away Families' Funds Enters Guilty Plea

A former Connecticut funeral director has agreed to plea guilty after using families’ prepaid funeral money to bankroll lavish casino trips. Phillip Pietras, 51, accepted the terms Friday, Sept. 18, in Rockville Superior Court before Judge Christopher Griffin. His formal guilty plea is scheduled for Oct. 23, with sentencing set for Jan. 22. The deal calls for a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence. He was expected to receive a 15-year sentence but half of that has been suspended.
