Member of PGA Tour Champions Suspended for Six Months for Placing Bets on PGA Tour Competitions

The PGA Tour announced Wednesday that PGA Tour Champions member, Matt Gogel, has been suspended for six months for violating the league's integrity program. Gogel placed bets on PGA Tour competitions that he did not participate in and will see his suspension span from Aug. 23, 2026 through Feb. 22, 2027. "In 2024 and 2025, I unknowingly violated the PGA Tour policy by placing small recreational wagers on golf," Gogel released in a statement. "I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated." They added: "I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake and I like forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions." Gogel is a six-time winner on the Korn Ferry Tour and a one-time winner on the PGA Tour with his lone victory coming at the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. On PGA Tour Champions this year, he competed in 17 events, compiling nine top-20 finishes and a pair of top-five results.

Rep. Kevin Kiley of California Wants Hearing on Little League Betting

The chair of a Congressional subcommittee has revealed he will look into the practice of adults gambling on the Little League World Series. “I think this is deeply troubling and perhaps it’s something that does merit further action by our committee,” said Rep. Kevin Kiley of California, an independent who chairs the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education. “I’m certainly open to exploring any and all angles." Kiley made those comments to USA Today. BetOnline broke the news to Gambling911.com on Wednesday that they would remove betting on the LLWS only if the youth athletes get paid. BetOnline argues that the Little League World Series is already profiting off these kids through ESPN and sponsorship deals. “I think that it does get complicated when you have this extraterritorial dimension to it, but we are talking about the American Little League World Series, an American institution that is deeply connected to essentially every community in this country," he said. "And this idea that the institution is being infiltrated by high stakes gambling I find to be deeply disturbing and something that I think we should try to do whatever we can to stop it. "It's certainly something that we're gonna look into and see what we can do with it. "It’s something that I'm definitely interested in looking into and seeing if there's something that we can do to try to, at the very least, bring attention to it and hopefully to bring it to a stop," Kiley said.

Canada Little League Fairy Tale Comes to an End
Canada somehow managed to knock off heavy favorite South Korea to advance in this year's Little League World Series tournament. On Wednesday, Canada was officially eliminated by Japan. Japan jumped out to a 7–0 lead, scoring four runs in the second inning and three more in the third. Taiga Yumitori delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer in the third. Canada fought back with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth, but couldn't complete the comeback. Alabama was also down by a few runs against Ohio as this was going to press.
