Arizona Cardinals Exec Now Under Investigation in Massachusetts for Alleged Gambling Violations

OAKLAND PARK, Fla (Gambling911.com) - Last month the NFL suspended a former Arizona Cardinals scout,Ryan Gold, for his alleged betting activity.

At the time, the league said it had determined that Gold, a 13-year front office veteran, provided confidential, non-public inside information regarding 2026 draft selections by the Cardinals before the picks were announced, and Gold also participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games. The league didn’t say who Gold had provided with the information.

Arizona drafted former Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love third overall in April, a decision that was made "at the start" of draft week.

“The Gambling Policy, which is annually reviewed with all NFL personnel, strictly prohibits anyone in the NFL from participating in or facilitating any form of sports gambling, and from providing third parties non-public information,” the NFL said in a statement. “Although there is no reason to believe the integrity of any NFL game was affected, the League takes any violation of the Gambling Policy with the utmost seriousness.”

Now comes word that The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is looking into unusual betting patterns made in the state, a spokesman told ESPN. Massachusetts' investigation comes after an investigation by the Arizona Department of Gaming was opened in July.

Gold attended high school in Massachusetts, winning back-to-back state championships in football. He attended the University of Massachusetts for his undergraduate degree in sport management and his master's degree in higher education. Gold then coached at UMass from 2011 to 2013 after spending two seasons as an offensive undergraduate assistant with the Minutemen.

Gold has filed an appeal and has a hearing scheduled for Sept. 23, his attorney, Mike Caspino told ESPN on Friday.

"There is absolutely zero substance to the claims made against Ryan Gold," Caspino said. "The NFL's investigation is so deeply flawed and so wrong. He will be vindicated next month in our appeal."

The NFL claims Gold had bet parlays on NFL and college games but Caspino told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the parlays in question were $10 weekly bets Gold's wife, Jennifer, made with a group of high school friends. Gold was not involved, Caspino insisted.

BetMGM confirmed that more money had been wagered on Love than any other player to be selected 3rd at 30-1 odds.  The amount of action pushed Love to 2-1 odds just days before the Draft.
