Kentucky Becomes Latest State to Sue Kalshi, Polymarket, VGW in Crackdown on Prediction Markets and Sweeps

Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman’s office filed three lawsuits in circuit court this week, targeting Kalshi and Polymarket on the prediction market side and VGW’s Chumba Casino, Global Poker and LuckyLand Slots on the sweepstakes side. The commonwealth says the companies are serving Kentuckians while avoiding licensing, taxes, and consumer protections required under state law. Kentucky made headlines in 2008 when they attempted to seize over 100 online gambling-related domain names.

Brendan Sorsby Drops Lawsuit Against NCAA After Getting an injunction to Play Despite Gambling

Brendan Sorsby has dropped his lawsuit against the NCAA, making the quarterback ineligible again and ending his college career because of gambling. The expected motion for dismissal of the suit was filed Thursday by the 99th District Court in Lubbock County. That was three days after Texas Tech said he wouldn't play this fall, and exactly a month after Sorsby filed his lawsuit that set off a legal saga that rattled college sports. That Texas court issued a temporary injunction June 8 that made the transfer quarterback eligible to play even after admitting that he placed bets on his own team while at Indiana as a freshman four years ago. Those were among thousands of impermissible bets he made while in college.

The memorandum of understanding covers 14 points but leaves many questions unanswered.

Czech Republic vs. South Africa begins the next round of matches at this year's World Cup. Both teams lost their first matches and only Czechia had a goal scored. Patrik Schick was that lone goal scorer in the Czech Republic's 2-1 loss to South Korea. Schick took zero shot and made two clearances. His goalscorer prop bets have him paying out US$390 for every US$100 bet to score the first goal of Thursday's match and US$135 for every US$100 bet to score a goal in this game.

PA Bans the Worst of the Worst From Various Casinos

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has approved the addition of 18 individuals to its various Involuntary Exclusion Lists, barring them from gambling at licensed retail and online casinos as well as Video Gaming Terminal (VGT) locations across the state. The bad actors include four adults on the Involuntary Casino Exclusion List. One of those individuals was a female patron who left two children, ages 8 and 13, inside a vehicle in the parking lot of Valley Forge Casino Resort for 52 minutes while participating in multiple forms of gambling. Another female patron left three children, ages 8, 9 and 13, alone in a hotel room at Mount Airy Casino Resort for 1 hour and 48 minutes while gambling at table games. Another female patron was excluded after leaving a 10-year-old child in a vehicle in the parking lot of Live! Casino Philadelphia for 3 hours and 8 minutes while playing slot machines. The fourth case involved a male patron who left a 12-year-old unattended in a vehicle in the parking lot of Hollywood Casino York for 30 minutes while gambling on slot machines.

Saratoga Casino Releases Names of Horses Killed in Fire Tuesday

Saratoga Casino has released the names of the horses killed in Tuesday’s tragic fire at the Saratoga Harness Track. The fire reportedly started in the backstretch area of the harness racetrack where some 350 horses are typically kept. Of the 17 horses that were killed, 11 belonged to trainer Robyn Mongiardo and six belonged to trainer Timothy Benson. One horse was able to escape.

University of Cincinnati Disputes Agent’s Claim the School Knew About Brendan Sorsby’s Gambling

The University of Cincinnati athletic department disputes a claim from Brendan Sorsby’s agent, who says the school knew about the quarterback’s gambling and didn’t do anything about it. “All of our student-athletes receive extensive gambling education multiple times throughout the year, and we would never knowingly play an athlete who violated NCAA sports wagering regulations,” the school’s athletic department said in a statement Wednesday. “If we ever became aware of impermissible wagering, we would report to the NCAA and comply with sanctions.” Sorsby’s agent, Ron Slavin, made the claims in an interview with KRLD radio in Dallas. The NCAA banished Sorsby from competition for gambling activity that included wagers on his own team while on the roster at Indiana in 2022 and betting on pro sports. He dropped his unprecedented legal battle to play for Texas Tech this year.
