Josh Hokit drew criticism for his post-interview attack on former First Lady Michelle Obama following his heavyweight win at UFC Freedom 250 Sunday.
Michelle Obama is a man, am I right America?" Hokit said to the crowd gathered Sunday on the White House lawn for UFC Freedom 250, the first professional sporting event to ever be held at the presidential residence.
The remark, which followed Hokit's victory over Derrick Lewis, received a mixed response during the fan event, prompting boos but also eliciting some laughter and cheers.
By the next day, UFC President Dana White expressed how he felt about the unfortunate incident.
“I understand that the Obamas are public figures, but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” White told TIME’s Sean Gregory in a text message. “Everyone knows my position on free speech, but I hate that kind of nonsense.”
Hokit has a history of making disparaging comments about others, including fellow fighters like Waldo Cortés-Acosta, who is favored to be his next opponent at 3-1 odds.
After winning his fight at UFC 324, Josh Hokit grabbed the microphone and issued a wild post-fight promo, calling Cortés-Acosta a "deadbeat father to nine kids".
BetOnline has released odds on Hokit's next opponent.
