Golden Tempo won this year's Kentucky Derby as one of the bigger long shots at 24-1 odds
Trainer Cherie DeVaux will have an answer by week's end as to whether Golden Tempo enters the Preakness Stake with a Triple Crown promising a payout of around $800 for every $100 bet.

Golden Tempo won this past Saturday's Kentucky Derby as one of the long shots at 24-1 odds. He will pay out roughly $800 for every $100 bet should he go on to win the Triple Crown.
Trainer Cherie DeVaux was nearly speechless when Golden Tempo charged from the back of the pack Saturday to make history for her.
“I’m just glad I don’t have to answer that question anymore,” DeVaux said to a rousing round of applause.
DeVaux joined Jena Antonucci, with Arcangelo in the 2023 Belmont, as the only women to train the winner of a Triple Crown race. She was just the 18th woman to saddle a horse in the Derby in its 152-year history, and the gravity of the situation came into focus for her days earlier when she saw a young girl on the backstretch and realized the impact she is making.
“It really is an honor to be able to be that person for other women or other little girls to look up to,” DeVaux said. “You can dream big, and you can pivot. You can come from one place and make yourself a part of history.”
DeVaux has not decided whether Golden Tempo will run back in the second leg of the Triple Crown. She expects to make a call toward the end of the week.
"We're going to look and see how much energy he has when he's on track, see how he's moving, see his attitude," she said.
"Other people's opinions are not part of the conversation," she said. "I appreciate that there is history with the Triple Crown. I appreciate that everyone's excited about it; however, the horse comes first."
The Preakness Stakes typically ranks among the third most wagered on one day event in most years here at Gambling911.com, but since 2022, two Kentucky Derby winners have skipped the Preakness Stakes (Rich Strike and Sovereignty).
