Wonder Dean
  • Wonder Dean pays out $3000 for every $100 bet should he go on to win the 2026 Kentucky Derby

  • In modern times, his No. 10 post position start has yielded the most Kentucky Derby winners

Wonder Dean will pay out 30-1 odds or $3000 for every $100 bet at BetOnline.

He will be starting at the No. 10 spot.  In recent years, this has been the strongest post position and 2nd only to the No. 5 spot overall with nine wins recorded.

It is an ideal position in that the starter typically avoids rail traffic and is not too far outside.

Ryusei Sakai will saddle up for this one.   He came very close to winning with Japanese horse Forever Young in 2024.  Though finishing third in that one, he was part of a dramatic three-horse photo finish.

Other Pros

  • Won the UAE Derby (about 1 3/16 miles), which is one of the closest preps to Derby distance.
  • He is peaking at just the right time.

Other Cons

  • The shipping from Dubai to Louisville is a major negative and might explain why the UAE Derby winner has never won the Kentucky Derby.
  • Less battle-tested than horses coming through U.S. circuits.
  • Speed concerns.
