James Talarico

A new University of Texas poll shows Democratic state Rep. James Talarico leading both potential Republican opponents in the Texas U.S. Senate race.

The poll also found that many voters remain undecided, and Republicans are still divided in a heated primary runoff between Senator John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The results suggest Texas could become a competitive battleground, helping Democrats in their bid to retake the Senate and put a check on President Trump. While no Democrat has won statewide in Texas since 1994, Talarico has been raising record amounts of money.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has warned that if Republicans can't unite behind one nominee, Talarico would win.

But the latest odds tell a different story. Talarico, who was a small favorite to take this race back on March 4, is now a slight underdog.

Vegas doesn’t know everything, but it feels like it’s telling us this is going to be an extremely tight race in November.

2026 U.S. Senate Odds (Texas)
