Domantas Sabonis as a Toronto Raptors player

The Toronto Raptors are slight favorites at 3-1 to land Domantas Sabonis while the Golden State Warriors come in at 4-1 odds and Charlotte Hornets at 5-1.

There have been some really big names thrown around as being on the trade block, and the oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag have updated next team odds for Anthony Davis, KAT, JJJ, Ja Morant, Zion, Sabonis and MPJ this week.

"The Raptors, league sources confirmed, are among the teams that have checked in on Sabonis ahead of the trade deadline. He has three years and $136.3 million left on his contract, so it would need to be a large-scale deal with either RJ Barrett or Immanuel Quickley likely heading back," ESPN's Anthony Slater reported.

So what's the downside of landing Sabonis?

Well, it's two-fold. First, Sabonis is a bad defender on the interior. He struggles to protect the rim, and because he doesn't have much length or speed, he can also struggle in ball-screen coverages to take up the requisite space required to challenge decision-makers. The second issue is the contract. Sabonis is owed $42.3 million this season and then an additional $94 million over the next two years. He's a good player, but the price point is far too high for a player of his caliber. And yet, he's only 29 and still has some years left of his prime. If you need physical play on the interior, rebounding and better ball movement, Sabonis can absolutely help you. He's made three All-Star games and two All-NBA teams for a reason. But you'd better have the rest of the roster figured out around him to get the most out of him.
