James Franlin's days at Penn State certainly look numbered as the Nittany Lions endured another upset loss, this time to Northwestern. But the real loss came when quarterback Drew Allar suffered a eg injury on a third-down play of that game. We quickly learned that Allar will be out for the remainder of this season.
“Drew will be done for the year,” Penn State's head coach confirmed.
Allar’s injury — not specified by the team at the time — capped a three-week stretch in which the Nittany Lions fell from No. 2 in the AP Top 25 after losing in overtime at home to No. 3 Oregon, getting pounded by a previously winless UCLA team last week and being outplayed by Northwestern in front of another restless crowd at Beaver Stadium.
From The Bleacher Report:
Franklin is owed a buyout of just under $50 million if he is fired without cause, USA Today's Ehsan Kassim previously reported. He is currently set to earn $8.5 million per year on a contract that runs through 2031.
Some fans were ready for Penn State to pay up after the program fell to 3-3 with Saturday's loss, including an 0-3 record against Big Ten opponents.
Penn State Talk summed in up like this:
James Franklin is a fantastic program builder. He made Vanderbilt respectable. He brought Penn State back to relevancy. He’s best at building up struggling programs.
But it’s becoming very clear he can’t take it all the way. He’s simply the guy before the guy.
Who's not upset about the Penn State losses among those residing throughout the Keystone State?
That would be the PA bookies no doubt.
They are 0-6 Against The Spread so far this season.

'Not Just One-Hit Wonder': Indiana Topples Oregon in Eugene
Fernando Mendoza threw for 215 yards and a key fourth-quarter touchdown and No. 7 Indiana remained undefeated with a 30-20 victory over No. 3 Oregon on Saturday.
Roman Hemby added a pair of scoring runs for the Hoosiers (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten), who frustrated the Ducks (5-1, 2-1) with stout defensive play. The win was Indiana’s first over a top-five team since beating then-No. 3 Purdue 19-14 in 1967.
Dante Moore threw for 186 yards and a touchdown, but has two passes intercepted and was sacked six times in Oregon’s first Big Ten regular-season loss. It snapped an 18-game winning streak at Autzen Stadium, the longest active streak in the nation.
Steve Sarkisian Praises UT's 'True Character' After Downing No. 6 OU
Texas rolled into the Cotton Bowl at 12:30 p.m. sharp on Saturday facing what Longhorns' coach Steve Sarkisian described as "a gut check moment." Five-plus hours later, as the Oklahoma half of the 92,100-person crowd flowed out of the stadium, Sarkisian and his players gathered at the 50-yard line with the Golden Hat and potentially season-defining win in hand.
A week after stumbling to 3-2 and out of the AP Top 25 following a loss at Florida, the Longhorns regained their form in comprehensive style. Behind quarterback Arch Manning's most efficient performance of the season and a physically dominant showing on both sides of the ball, Texas quieted the noise in a 23-6 win over No. 6 Oklahoma, capping a week of national chatter with a resounding victory that will keep the Longhorns' College Football Playoff hopes alive for at least another week and perhaps much further this fall.
"I think we saw the true character of the men in that locker room today -- their connectivity, their love for one another," Sarkisian said. "It's easy to succumb to the outside noise. There was a lot of s--- getting talked about our team, about these guys. And I think they responded."
