Our friends at SportsBetting.ag have come up with a semi-scientific - sort of - study based on X data (tweets) from September 6th to now, tracking "panic mode" tweets from fans of big college programs that either lost or did not perform as expected.

For example, tracking tweets, hashtags, and direct keyword phrases from fans (determined by hashtags like #rolltide) that include things like, "We're cooked this year," "We're going to suck this year," "Our team is overrated," "We're going to be horrible," "Fire the coach," "We're not making the playoffs," etc. Over 100,000 tweets were tracked.

Here are the top 10 teams that are in panic mode (based on number of panic tweets):

Florida – 21,699
Arizona State – 18,671
Michigan – 16,156
Oklahoma State – 14,137
Clemson – 11,612
Kansas State – 7,049
UCLA – 5,847
SMU – 4,645
Virginia Tech – 2,443
Georgia – 1,267

The likely reasons:

Florida – defeated by unranked South Florida, then drop out of the top 25.

Arizona State - shocked by unranked Mississippi State, dropped out of the top 25.

Michigan - Michigan fans were sure they would beat Oklahoma, expecting a breakout performance, but were defeated and now clinging onto a top 25 ranking.

Oklahoma State - they got absolutely decimated by Oregon, who had over 600 yards of offense on them, many calls for the coach to be fired

Clemson - Came off a loss and then barely escaped Troy, showing that they may not be a playoff caliber team this year

Kansas State - defeated by Army, went from ranked to losing two of first three games.

UCLA - lost to UNLV and trailed at one point 23-0.

SMU - defeated by rival Baylor, dropped out of the top 25.

Virginia Tech - beaten handily by Vanderbilt, a game in which they were favored.

Georgia - put up a very uninspired performance again no-name Austin Peay State University, causing fans to worry.
