Reason Why Brian Quintenz CFTC Nomination is Being Delayed

Brian Quintenz' nomination as the CFTC chair is apparently being delayed over his ties to the gambling prediction market Kalshi, we are learning Tuesday.

He serves on that company's board.

Quintenz’s team reportedly sought confidential CFTC information regarding Kalshi competitors, Polymarket, and PredictIt during a transition planning process.

Eleanor Terrett, host of the Crypto America podcast, confirmed speculation, citing multiple possible triggers for the delay.

Lbbying by the  American Gaming Association, which opposes expanded prediction, may also be playing a role in the delay.

It's an interesting development considering most of Trump's picks have had little trouble getting through.

Leading gaming attorney Daniel Wallach suggests that Republican Senators in states where sports betting is currently regulated might have a tough time confirming Quintenz.

The pertinent question that needed to be addressed as it pertained to prediction markets, Wallach noted:

"Question to ask Brian Quintenz prior to the Senate confirmation vote — whether he has plans to authorize the CFTC to file a CA3 amicus brief in support of Kalshi — all but telegraphed by Kalshi’s recent request for a multi-week extension in an expedited appeal. Brief due 7/31."

Insider Says Emmanuel Clase’s Leave Ruined Guardians’ Deadline Plans

MLB announced, on Monday, that Cleveland Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase is being placed on non-disciplinary paid leave because of an ongoing investigation for potentially influencing betting activities.  Teammate Luis Ortiz had previously been flagged for potential violation of the league's gambling policy.

According to MLB insider Jim Bowden, the Guardians were prepared to trade Clase before the deadline on July 31.

“Emmanuel Clase was going to get traded. This is a huge blow for them because this was going to be an opportunity to reset their organization by using him as trade bait,” Bowden said.

Emmanuel Clase Placed On Leave While MLB Conducts Gambling Investigation

Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase on Monday was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through Aug. 31 as part of Major League Baseball's investigation into sports gambling.  Clase is the second Guardians pitcher to be caught up in the inquiry.

Clase, 27, is a three-time All-Star and two-time winner of the Mariano Rivera Award as the best relief pitcher in the American League. He finished third in AL Cy Young voting last year when he posted a 0.61 ERA over 74⅓ innings. In 47⅓ innings this season, Clase has a 3.23 ERA and has already allowed more hits this year (46) than last (39) while striking out 47 and walking 12.

Guardians right-hander Luis Ortiz remains on non-disciplinary paid leave after originally being placed there July 3 after unusual gambling activity on two pitches he threw for balls, sources told ESPN. Ortiz's leave was later extended to Aug. 31.

In a statement, the Guardians said "no additional players or club personnel are expected to be impacted" by the investigation.
