Could the Knicks Actually End Their 50-Plus-Year Championship Drought? Here Are the Odds
The words ‘long suffering’ and ‘Knicks fan’ go hand in hand, as it’s been 52 years since their last title. Could the championship drought finally end in Gotham?
Is This the Year?
You can’t be a New York Knicks fan without being a masochist, too. Long gone are the halcyon days of Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, and those two NBA titles in four seasons (1970 and 1973).
Back in ‘73, there was Watergate, the end (theoretically) of the war in Vietnam, and gasoline lines all across the United States. It was also those Knicks spotting the first game of the Finals to the Los Angeles Lakers before winning the next four.
There were Finals appearances in both 1994 and the truncated season of 1999, but losses to the Texans (Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs) kept the drought intact.
Sure, other franchises have had longer dry spells, but they’ve packed and moved (more than once in some cases). The Sacramento Kings last won as the Rochester (N.Y.) Royals in 1950, while the Atlanta Hawks were in St. Louis when they won in 1958.
Meanwhile, the Knicks haven’t gone anywhere, playing in the NBA’s oldest (though renovated) building in the circa-1968 Madison Square Garden.
Here they are once again. Having ended the 2024-25 season at 51-31 in NBA games, New York was the No. 3 seed in the East. There were series wins over the Detroit Pistons (five games) and the defending-champion Boston Celtics (six games), the gruesome injury to Jayson Tatum perhaps flipping that script.
What’s not debatable is New York’s 5-1 road record in the postseason, though by virtue of one more win during the season, the team has home-court advantage over the Indiana Pacers in the about-to-begin Eastern Conference finals. It’s New York’s first conference finals appearance since 2000.
Indiana dusted both the Milwaukee Bucks and top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in five games to reach the NBA’s version of the Final Four.
That the Knicks are still alive and relevant in 2024-25 is one of the bigger stories in NBA news.
Here’s a bit of a primer on the New York Knicks and the Final Four of the NBA playoffs…
Who Is the New York Knicks’ Best Player Right Now?
There’s no arguing the fact that the New York Knicks go as far as Jalen Brunson carries them. Look at Bruson’s stats in Knicks’ games, and you see team-leading averages of 26 points and 7.9 assists per game. This is after the 28-year-old point guard’s 28.7 points and 6.7 assists per game last season. He was good with the Dallas Mavericks, surpassing that adjective since arriving in Manhattan.
How Much Is a Box at MSG for a Knicks Game?
If you want to see NBA games while avoiding ‘commoners,’ there’s a suite with your name on it at Madison Square Garden. According to the never-wrong internet, suites are priced at between $8,000 and $30,000 per game. They ‘seat’ between eight and 34 people. If you go and have some room available, remember the author.
Who Is Favored to Win the NBA Finals?
It’s no surprise the Oklahoma City Thunder remain a strong favorite to win the NBA Finals and their first title since life as the Seattle SuperSonics. It’s OKC at 5-17 (-240) to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy, with the New York Knicks at 5-1 (+500), Indiana Pacers at 29-4 (+725), and Minnesota Timberwolves at 17-2 (+850). Odds are fluid throughout the playoffs.
Does BetUS Offer Constant Updates on NBA Betting Lines?
Indeed. There are individual NBA scores, game and series odds available, along with additional props around individual games and the length of both conference finals. There is a board with the biggest individual postseason award, the MVP of the Finals (honoring Bill Russell.
Any Final Thoughts?
Anyone paying even marginal attention to NBA standings is aware of the conference finals. There are compelling games and exciting opportunities to make money. Continuing to invoke the phrase ‘do your homework’ because it’s essential if you are going to gain any possible advantage against the NBA odds.
