Mystery Entities Behind an Attempted 2021 Takedown of Evolution to Be Unmasked Friday

It appears we are going to learn much sooner the entities behind a failed 2021 attempt to take over Evolution gaming. 

The entities involved will be unmasked Friday (7 March) after a New Jersey judge denied an attempt to delay the order.

Judge John C. Porto has denied Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP’s motion to stay the unmasking of the investigative firm that compiled the 2021 prohibited markets report, which resulted in billions in value being wipe from Evolution’s share price, and the entity which ultimately commissioned it.

This is earlier than initially expected, with a court update yesterday stating the decision on the matter would take place by 28 March.

NEXT.io understands the order means the unmasking will take place as per the original schedule published last week, which means that the live casino giant should have the names later today (Friday March 7, 2025).

Evolution Gaming Group AB is a Swedish casino software developer that is among the largest in the online and land-based casino sector. Evolution may be best known for its studios that offer live dealer online casino platforms.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) previously cleared Evolution of any misconduct back in February following an investigation into allegations of illegal activity in markets subject to US sanctions.

The initial claim in 2021 centered on accusations that the supplier’s live casino games were available in black market jurisdictions including Iran, Syria and Sudan. Evolution said at the time the claim originated from an anonymous third party with the intention to discredit its business.

“According to allegations made in the anonymous and dubious report, active manipulation of Evolution’s systems has been deployed to create the impression that play from such countries was possible,” Evolution said in a statement back in 2021.

“This use of Evolution’s content, through an operator that was not an Evolution customer but connected to an aggregator which Evolution has as a customer, was seemingly conducted by first establishing a VPN-tunnel from an IP-address in a blocked country to obtain an IP address in an accepted country.”

Friday's big reveal is only the end of one chapter in this long convoluted saga.

Following the unmasking, Evolution will be free to pursue its defamation case.
