Shohei Ohtani, Tommy Edman, Will Smith and Max Muncy all homered for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opening inning Wednesday night, the first time that has happened in the franchise's history.

Ohtani led off the game with his career best 47th homer, a 405-foot shot to center field against Chicago Cubs starter Jordan Wicks. The Japanese superstar notched his 48th stolen base in the second. He's three homers and two steals away from becoming the first player in Major League Baseball history to record a 50/50 season.

Before the season started, Ronald Acuna Jr. had 20/1 odds to become the first 50-50 player in MLB history, which equated to about an 8% chance.

SportsBetting.ag started offering Ohtahi 50-50 Club odds back on August 19. That day, he was around 2/1 odds to achieve the feat.

Nine days later (August 28), the odds had worsened slighted (5/2 or +250).

By September 3, these were his odds of hitting the coveted milestone:

Will Shohei Ohtani become member of 50-50 Club?

Yes       -225

No       +160

Now about those Cubs...with good reason.  They've been on fire the last couple of weeks despite being just a few wins over the .500 mark.

The Cubs are now 5-5 in their last ten games.

They currently rank 5th on our Daily MLB Power Rankings.

  1. New York Mets
  2. Philadelphia Phillies
  3. Detroit Tigers
  4. Cleveland Guardians
  5. Chicago Cubs
  6. Texas Rangers
  7. Los Angeles Dodgers
  8. St. Louis Cardinals
  9. Arizona Diamondbacks
  10. San Diego Padres
  11. Atlanta Braves
  12. Baltimore Orioles
  13. Cincinnati Reds
  14. Pittsburgh Pirates

Even after giving up all those home runs in the first inning, the Cubs only lost by two runs to the Dodgers (10-8).
