Preakness Odds Now That Muth is Scratched

Bad news for Bob Baffert and his team this morning as the Preakness Stakes favorite, Muth, was scratched from Saturday's race.

But that was good news for Mystik Dan and the possibility of a Triple Crown champion in 2024.

SportsBetting.ag has moved Mystik Dan into the favorite position with 5/2 odds. Here are the notable odds adjustments following Muth's departure from the field:

Mystik Dan - 4/1 to 5/2

Imagination - 9/1 to 6/1

Seize the Grey - 20/1 to 15/1

Uncle Heavy - 25/1 to 20/1

Mugatu - 66/1 to 20/1

The Maryland Jockey Club announced Muth’s status change Wednesday morning, roughly 12 hours after the horse arrived at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Muth registered with a spiking fever.  Baffert said Muth’s temperature reached 103 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) and the camp had no choice but to scratch him.

“We are sick about this. The horse had been doing really well,” Baffert said. “But we have to do what’s right by the horse.”

As far as Mystik Dan's odds to capture the first Triple Crown since 2018, they improved but just slightly.
