Bob Baffert's horse National Treasure is the favorite in Saturday's race and will pay just shy of 2-1 odds.

National Treasure was drawn into post 7.

It's a good position on a track that features a first turn that comes only 150 yards from the start.

“The break is going to be very important,” jockey Flavian Prat said Thursday in a phone call from California to Horse Racing Nation. “The turn comes very quickly. It’s very important to get a good break.”

“We just do our normal routines for shipping in,” Baffert’s assistant Jimmy Barnes said Thursday. “We got in Tuesday evening. We went to the track Wednesday morning. We went like a light mile. And then today we went back up to a mile-and-a-half.”

First Mission has the next shortest odds with a payout potential of $300 on every $100 bet.

He finished first at the Lexington and second at the Clark Stakes.

“He's been doing very well week after week,” trainer Brad Cox said of the Godolphin homebred, a latest second to the re-opposing Trademark (Upstart) in the GII Clark S. at Churchill Downs Nov. 24. “We're excited about giving him a shot at a Grade I. We weren't looking for anything really different than he'd done the last few weeks. We were just giving him an opportunity to go out there and stretch his legs, see how he's doing. And he's telling us he's doing as well as he ever has.”
