Just as they did with Colorado, BetOnline was expected to offer various odds on Maine's ballot as it pertains to former US President and current GOP candidate Donald Trump after that state announced he would not qualify for its primary ballot.

Maine is the second state to do so and others could soon follow with BetOnline likely to offer odds on the next state to do so.

The decision by Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, finds that Trump violated the 14th Amendment’s clause barring those who “assist insurrection” from holding office.  The clause does not require an individual to have been convicted of engaging in an insurrection.  Trump's team was quick to claim Bellows' decision is purely political.

They attacked Bellows as a “virulent leftist and a hyper-partisan Biden-supporting Democrat.”

“We are witnessing, in real-time, the attempted theft of an election and the disenfranchisement of the American voter,” spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement. “Make no mistake, these partisan election interference efforts are a hostile assault on American democracy.”

Cheung said the campaign will appeal the ruling.

“We know both the Constitution and the American people are on our side in this fight,” he continued. “President Trump’s dominating campaign has a commanding lead in the polls that has dramatically expanded as Crooked Joe Biden’s presidency continues to fail.”

The Colorado GOP on Wednesday petitioned the nation’s high court to review the Colorado Supreme Court decision disqualifying Trump.  The former President was also expected to file his own petition. His name is widely expected to appear on the Colorado primary ballot as those are set to be printed and mailed out in the coming days.

Trump did take a tiny hit with the general election odds following the Colorado Supreme Court ruling.  They gave the possibility of another state barring Trump from the ballot 8/1, or +800, odds, yet that happened pretty quickly, barely two weeks after the Colorado decision.

BetOnline.ag Political Analyst and Oddsmaker, Paul Krishnamurty, had this to offer following the CO Supreme Court ruling:

“It seems extremely unlikely that the Supreme Court will allow this ruling to stand, and that whatever they rule will guide other states considering such a move. Even if it does, as a Blue State, Colorado is largely irrelevant to determining the electoral college in this scenario.

“However, where it might make an impact is in the GOP race. While such legal battles persist, and Trump’s first criminal case regarding January 6 is scheduled for March, it may strengthen the idea that he is too risky to choose as nominee, and that after a conviction, they may need to think again.

“It gives his opponents hope and a reason to stay in. However, overall, I think this probably helps rather than hinders Trump, as it will reinforce his ‘victim’ status and claims that the establishment is out to deny democracy using any means. It will help him raise money at the end of the day.”
