A popular Las Vegas resort is coming under fire for reportedly serving live gold fish as part of a drink presentation.

Vital Vegas was among the first to break this story.

"We heard a brouhaha could be brewing around a live goldfish being used in cocktail presentations at Jayde at 16 at M Resort.  Happy to report the pugnacious male betta fish just chill in their little fishbowls (a martini glass sits on top) and are nonplussed."

Emphasis on the "little fishbowls".  Is the fish even able to move?

"Don’t understand why people think this is ever a good idea," asked one person via Twitter.

Our friend Jackie Clevfan of MajorWager posed the same question on her own Twitter feed.

Another Redditor offered this assessment: "Because people in general don't view fish as living beings. They're decorations or something to shut their bratty kids up for a week before theyre left to die."

Fish are lving things with feelings.

The Inner Lives Of Our 'Underwater Cousins' : The Salt Jonathan Balcombe, author of What A Fish Knows, says that "fish have a conscious awareness — or 'sentience' — that allows them to experience pain, recognize individual humans and have memory."

This poor fish has no room to move its head to see the drunk fools drinking this martini.
