England midfielder David Beckham has backed red-hot striker Wayne Rooney to fire the national towards World Cup glory.

England midfielder David Beckham has backed red-hot striker Wayne Rooney to fire the national towards World Cup glory.

Rooney has scored 25 goals so far this season and Beckham believes that the 24-year-old is out to prove he is the best player in the world.

"Burnout won't be a problem. Wayne is ready for any game. It doesn't matter how many matches he's played or will be involved in until the end of the season - he'll be ready," The Sun quoted Beckham, as saying.

"Of course, he can sustain that level until the middle of July. He is only 24 - he should be able to. Wayne looks after himself and works hard. The way he plays on the field is how he plays in training - and that's why he's so good," he added.

Germany, Netherlands and France are serious contenders to win the FIFA World Cup 2010 with odds presented below.

Germany 12.00

Netherlands 14.00

France 15.00

Midfielder Daniel Jensen is confident that the Danish can surprise this summer.

"A win in the first game would be massive for us based on the quality of the opposition but a point against the Dutch would also be a satisfactory start. To be honest, getting something from an opening game is very important in terms of confidence, but even if you lose there are still two games left to try to turn things around and qualify," said Jensen to FIFA.com.

"Sometimes the unexpected can happen in football. We must use this to our advantage and believe that, as the underdog, we are capable of causing an upset. It only takes one goal to turn a game and that's why it's so important we take our chances.

"Our coach Morten Olsen and his staff are excellent at providing the team with video analysis, so when the time is right we will be sure to research all our opponents carefully."
