It sounds like the history of the Washington Commanders may be short lived.

Following the record-breaking sale of the franchise last week, new ownership made it pretty clear that they are likely to change the mascot name in order to put a death knell in the Dan Snyder coffin.

We’ve set odds for Washington's next team name, as well as the chances of the name being changed before the 2024 regular season (odds imply an 80% probability there will be a new mascot).

Reverting back to "Washington Football Team" is the second favorite, but there are some interesting names on the list, including the favorite.

Our oddsmakers were definitely leaning into the Magic Johnson angles when setting the odds. The "Washington Spartans" is a nod to Johnson's college mascot at Michigan State, while the "Washington Magicians" would be a way to incorporate the legend's name.

Could Josh Harris have a say in the name? If so, the "Washington Crimson" might be a cool option since Harris went to Harvard and the primary team color is a shade of red.

Social media has been abuzz with name ideas, and there are nearly 20 in total on the list below.

Additionally, the annual "first head coach fired" odds are out. Mike McCarthy is the favorite for the second season in a row.

Todd Bowles (6-1) is second on the canned list, and Ron Rivera of the aforementioned Commanders club is third with 7-1 odds.
