"Crashed" was trending on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
The first Twitter space live stream between the Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Twitter owner Elon Musk crashed after 720,000+ people showed up. Upon relaunching, the space reached about 300,000 live listeners. Not exactly the grand entry DeSantis had envisioned.
The first 12 minutes featured nothing but silence followed by a number of glitches for a good half hour. DeSantis eventually announced he would be running for President.
BetOnline offered the following odds coming into Wednesday's announcement.
The former US President, Donald Trump, immediately mocked the event and DeSantis. Trump is currently the favorite to win the Republican nomination.
“Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!” he wrote on Truth Social.
“Rob,” My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!), yours does not! (per my conversation with Kim Jung Un, of North Korea, soon to become my friend!)” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Current US President Joe Biden also trolled DeSantis during the event. Biden tweeted out his own campaign noting "this link works".
Polls show favorability at Trump 50% and DeSantis 33%. Back in December DeSantis' favorability was at 40%.
