While a sophomore at UGA in 2021, Carter recorded 25 tackles and 7 assists.  As a pass rusher, he had 4 sacks during that year.  The year's performance ultimately earned him a spot on the 2021 All-SEC football team.

As a junior, he missed five games with an MCL injury but registered 25 tackles, 7 assists and added 21 stop in the games he did play.

There is talk that the Seattle Seahawks could ultimately land Carter.   There is some speculation this is nothing more than a smoke screen.

“I’ve heard defensive tackle Jalen Carter (Georgia) won’t fall past [the Chicago Bears’] pick at No. 9,” wrote ESPN reporter Matt Miller about his Bears NFL Draft intel. “They are said to value him highly.”

The Detroit Lions have slightly shorter odds of picking Carter than do the Seahawks.

The issue with Carter is his off-the-field behavior.  He was charged in March with reckless driving in the wake of a crash that killed a Georgia teammate and a recruiting staffer.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes appeared undeterred.

"He came in and he did a nice job. Again, it's always case by case. He came in, we enjoyed our time with him, he did a nice job," Holmes said of Carter's recent visit. "I'll say even after he left his visit, I felt better about him."
