The Travers Stakes is open to three-year-olds and features a $1,250,000 purse.

It is run on the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York on 1+1⁄4 miles (10 Furlongs).

The Arkansas Derby winner, Cyberknife, has since rebounded from a disappointing 18th place finish at the Kentucky Derby.

“He’s a horse that we always thought and had an intent for him to get better after he got older. He’s definitely doing that,” said trainer Brad Cox. “We’re excited about giving him an opportunity at the big stage we have for 3-year-olds right now.”

Artorius is the son of 2016 Travers winner Arrogate.

This will be only his fourth career start and his initial try in a graded stakes.

"Arrogate won the Travers in his fifth start, but he was one of the all-time greats and that helped him buck a trend against what he was trying to do," said Garrett O'Rourke, the manager of Juddmonte USA. "We know it's not easy to win the Travers off just a handful of races, but you put your trust in the trainer and when they see all the right signals, you try. It's the Travers and that's the kind of race you take a chance in. It's one of the biggest prizes in racing, and while you would ideally love to have more experience, you'll take a chance when it's his last chance to chase such a big prize in a race just for 3-year-olds."

Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen will be running Epicenter in Saturday's Travers Stakes.  Epicenter has been hsecond as often as he has won through six starts this year.

“Enough with the excuses. It’s time to win one of these things,” he said. “We’re proud of the horse, but you want to win. That’s what you’re in it for.”
