Sports Betting Could Go Live in Kansas This Upcoming Football Season

With a population just shy of 3 million, the state of Kansas is set to launch sports betting some time during the upcoming football season (2022).  This is sooner than expected as the original launch was expected to be in early 2023.

Governor Laura Kelly gave the final approval to authorize regulated online sports betting in Kansas on May 12, 2022.  The law takes effect July 1, 2022.

While there are only four casinos in the state, the new law will allow for up to 50 locations to offer in-person sports betting.

Sportsbooks should be offered at the Boot Hill Casino & Resort, Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway, Kansas Crossing Casino Hotel, and Kansas Star Casino Hotel Event Center.

For online mobile wagering, remote registration from anywhere in the state will be available.

Kansas City Chiefs fandom is ubiquitous in Missouri, home to Arrowhead Stadium where the Chiefs play. They are the most popular team in 110 Missouri Counties.  As for the state they share their name with, Chiefs fans are next-most likely to be found in Kansas (81 counties).

Kansas is one of the biggest college basketball states and is home to a handful of top teams that include the Jayhawks, Wildcats and Shockers.

A tax rate of 10% will be applied to all sports betting revenue in Kansas. Additionally, a federal tax of 24% is tacked onto gambling winnings in the U.S.

Those 21 and up will be permitted to bet.
