Trump-Endorsed Katie Britt Wins Alabama GOP Senate Primary Runoff vs. Mo Brooks

A former top aide to outgoing Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala. has won the GOP primary in Alabama, beating representative for state's 5th congressional district, Mo Brooks.

Katie Britt received the endorsement of former U.S. President Donald Trump.  It's not immediately known how much his blessing played a role in her win.   Brooks lost Trump's backing when it appeared he was losing, then he roared back to force the runoff.  The former President was said to be flirting with the idea of re-endorsing Brooks.

Trump had also previously referred to Britt as an “assistant” to “the RINO Senator from Alabama, close friend of Old Crow Mitch McConnell, Richard Shelby.”

In the end, Britt had more than 64% of the votes with around 40% counted.

DeSantis Gets More of a Boost

BetOnline revealed its odds on Florida's Republic Governor Ron DeSantis had moved in a favorable direction following an endorsement by Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk.

On Tuesday there was additional chatter about DeSantis dethroning Trump as the GOP standard bearer.

Dexter Filkins of the New York believes DeSantis is the new conservative folk hero.

An Ivy League-educated anti-élitist firebrand, he is willing to pick a fight with anyone—reporters, health officials, teachers, Mickey Mouse—to grab a headline.

Sound familiar?

Axios' Ben Montgomery writes that, in some polls, DeSantis now leads Trump.

‘I think I would win’: Trump said of a race that would pit him against the Florida Governor.

He also made it a point to credit himself for DeSantis' success.

“If I didn’t endorse him [DeSantis], he wouldn’t have won,” Trump told the New Yorker before saying the two had a good relationship.
