It makes sense to have King as the favorite being that he was the interim head coach through the season after taking over back in November.
The Blackhawks fired head coach Jeremy Colliton very early in the 2021-22 regular season after a pitiful start, which saw the Blackhawks go 1-9-2.
Peter DeBoer had the second shortest odds of becoming the next head coach at 6-1. He was fired by the Vegas Golden Knights after that team missed its first playoffs. Much of that had to do with injuries and a little bad luck (they missed the post season by only a few points).
DeBoer reached the Stanley Cup Final with both New Jersey and San Jose but never won the big series.
Barry Trotz pays the third shortest odds at 7-1. He's widely considered the biggest name available during the off season. Trotz was fired by the Islanders for no apparent reason.
Overall, it's a crap shoot with 13 names being offered up at 12-1 odds or shorter.
