An absolute long shot, for the payout alone Ethereal Road could prove attractive. With a win he pays out $5000 on a $100 bet.
Ethereal Road has three graded races under his belt, the best performance being 2nd place in the Rebel Stakes. That one was followed up with a 7th place dud in the Blue Grass and a 4th place finish in the Blue Grass Stakes.
Even the 2nd place finish was not overly impressive. Ethereal Road was beaten by a half-length by one-eyed Un Ojo, a 75-1 outsider and a filly.
“That filly ran so much faster than the colts, too, and she was on cruise control and they're under a drive,” Ethereal Road's Racing Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas said of Secret Oath. “I don't know what we're going to do. We're going to keep it one and one for now, for sure.”
Lukas has won twenty Breeders' Cup races, received five Eclipse Awards for his accomplishments, and his horses have won 25 year-end Eclipse Awards.
Unfortunately for Ethereal Road, he will be starting from the number 20 spot. That post position has only yielded a single winner in the Kentucky Derby.
