Ontario Online Sports Betting a Huge Hit

Online sports betting went live in Ontario on April 4 and thus far has proven to be a resounding success.  Ontario has a population of nearly 15 million, making it the second biggest sports betting market in North America after New York.

Ontario is expected to generate about $800 million in gross revenue this year.  Not all registered gaming companies are live as of yet.

PointsBet was among the first to go live.  They've also entered into a number of partnerships with regional teams.  PointsBet Canada will make become an official sports betting partner of the MLSE-owned Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, Argos, and F.C.

The Ontario sports betting deal followed PokerStars and FanDuel Sportsbook announcing on Friday their own partnership with MLSE.

Other companies looking to grab hold of market share include the likes of Bragg Gaming Group, Rush Street Interactive, Penn National Gaming, MGM Resorts International, and Gan Limited.

On 4 April, Bragg announced it has entered into content distribution agreements with several iGaming operators entering the Ontario market after receiving its suppliers license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario for its technology and content.

"Ontario is our home market, and we are delighted to be in position to serve operators with our iGaming content and solutions as the market opens to customers across the province. We believe the Ontario online gaming market offers a significant opportunity for our industry-leading content and platform technology and we are excited by the interest shown in our offerings from local, U.S. and international operators," said Chris Looney, Chief Commercial Officer at Bragg.
