If you live in New Jersey and want to bet the big Villanova Wildcats vs. Seton Hall Pirates game, you're out of luck unless you happen to have a local bookie or can find an offshore sportsbook that allows NJ residents.  Most don't.  Some of the offshores allow individuals to register with just their name and contact information.  Gambling911.com does not promote sports betting in the state of New Jersey.

The reason you can't bet this game with the dozen or so apps licensed by the state is a result of regulations prohibiting wagering on games that feature in-state schools or games that feature them.  This includes Saturday's big game that features your beloved Seton Hall Pirates as a -1 point favorite taking on Villanova.

The Wildcats are coming off a big win against No. 18 Xavier the other night.  Collin Gillespie and Eric Dixon each had 15 points for the Wildcats (8-4, 1-1 Big East) to win 71-58.

This comes after the Wildcats dropped 14 spots in the Associated Press Top 25 after a 79-59 loss at Creighton on Friday in their Big East opener and a 57-36 defeat at Baylor on Dec. 12 — the first time in coach Jay Wright's 21 seasons Villanova lost consecutive games by 20 or more points.

It appeared that Villanova could be heading for their third straight loss before Justin Moore stepped it up and scored 12 of his 17 points after halftime.

"It was a good job by us of responding," Moore said. "We did a great job of playing as hard as we can, defending and playing tough."

Meanwhile, the Pirates endured only their second loss of the season to No. 21 Providence 70-65.  But Seton Hall came into that game ravaged by Covid-19.  Only eight players were in uniform. Five were in COVID-19 protocols, but only one starter, 7-foot-2 center Ike Obiagu, was out.

"It was really different," Seton Hall's Myles Cale said of the small bench. "We were missing guys that you usually travel with and build that chemistry around. You're just missing that feeling about the game because they definitely bring that energy. I wish they could have been there, but it's just the times we're living in."

Seton Hall is 50-15 playing at home since 2017 for a 74.9% win percentage. Against ranked opponents they are just 13-20 Straight Up however.

The wins by Villanova in recent games of the series are a bit deceptive as Seton Hall has only lost by more than four points in their last meeting (8 points) over a span of six games.  Two of those were outright wins by the Pirates while two others were losses by just two points.  Seton Hall is 4-2 Against The Spread over this period.
