Sports Betting Beat : US Handle Hits $4.6 Million

March saw $4.6 billion in betting handle in a single month for the legalized US market. Many sportsbook Pay Per Head operators are reporting significant increases in sports betting activity for March as well.

Illinois’ total sports betting handle during the month was $633.6 million. This is 24.3% higher than February’s $509.8 million, keeping in mind that February included the Super Bowl.

The state is also setting a new record for the highest betting handle. The previous one being January 2021’s $581.5 million. Illinois is a fast growing betting market that stands to earn even more with some adjustments to sports betting laws in the state.

"The jump kind of went in line with the numbers we saw from across the country and other states with legalized gambling," Sports betting analyst Bryce Derouin said.

Offshore sportsbooks, Pay Per Heads and local bookmakers will likely cut into some of the revenue stream now that it looks as if in-person registration is here to stay.  Residents and visitors will also be unable to place bets on in-state college football teams.
