Bet on DC Becoming a US State: Odds Heavy on the 'No'

DC statehood has been approved by the House but the initiative faces more obstacles in a Senate that will require 60 votes.

The Senate is split 50/50 with Vice President Kamala Harris as the tie-breaker.  Republican senators are likely to filibuster the statehood bill, which would result in the need for nine more votes.

Washington DC is one of the most Democrat-heavy jurisdictions in the country.  The odds of any Republican jumping on board remain slim to none.  DC becoming a state means two more Senators, both of whom stand a very good chance of being Democrats.

Could it happen?  Sure.

Will it happen this year? No.

Will the Senate vote for Washington D.C. to be a full state before 2022?

Yes +500

No -1200 (you will need to bet $120 to win $10 and get back your $120 just as long as DC does NOT become the 51st state).
