The state of Illinois has returned to in-person registration to open an online sports betting account following a pause due to Covid-19.  Residence looking to open an account will either have to visit a land-based casino associated with the site of their choosing or register with one of a few dozen offshore sportsbooks.  The later welcome those 18 and up and tend to offer higher welcome bonuses.

Governor JB Pritzker did not renew the suspension on in-person sports gambling registration that has been in effect since the summer.  Pritzker has regularly been extending the order throughout the pandemic.

Originally, Illinois regulators stipulated that physical registration would be necessary for a period of two years, presumably ending January 2023. A mobile-only license would allow for remote registration much sooner but would require a $20 million licensing fee.

Online registration is being credited for allowing the Land of Lincoln to rank among the top five states for overall sports betting handle, including a record $581.6 million in handle for the month of January.

More Trouble in Tennessee

Following the news that home grown Action 24/7 had its sports betting license pulled comes word that yet another gambling firm is in hot water.

William Hill is accused of taking bets on college player props.  The state prohibits this.

The Tennessee Education Lottery oversees licensing in Tennessee and it remains to be seen what actions, if any, will be taken against Hill.
