Todd Brunson Takes on Kids in Cages and the Latest DC Narrative

Poker pro Todd Brunson says he had "bitten his lip" on the topic of illegal border crossing and the more troubling dention of children, many of whom arrive unaccompanied by adults.

The US now has a 20-year high in numbers of migrants arriving at the southern border.  Among them, the thousands of children who are being kept in government-run detention facilities many critics claim are inhumane.  As of 21 March, US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents were holding more than 15,500 unaccompanied children in custody.

While the administration of former US President Donald Trump came under fire for its own policy, current President Joe Biden is now taking heat for his administration's approach.  Brunson intends to hold Biden's feet to the fire.  As one would expect, the political rhetoric got mighty heated.

"There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March," Biden said during last week's press conference. "That happens every year."

From the BBC:

It is true, as Biden states, that numbers often rise during the early months of the year when temperatures begin to warm. But the number of children arriving today without their parents is considerably higher than at the same time in 2019 and 2020.

In fact, the number of unaccompanied children being apprehended by the Border Patrol were higher in February than they've been any previous February since 2014, according to data shared with NPR by the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute.

Of course a Twitter discussion about illegal immigration would not be complete without Mike "The Mouth" Matusow chiming in.

Overall, just 37 percent of Americans said they approve of Biden's handling of immigration policy, and 44 percent said they disapprove.

Odds on Biden Finishing His First Term

BetOnline continued to offer odds on whether Biden will complete his first full term in office.

Biden, who is 78, insisted during a Thursday press conference that he would complete his term and even plans to seek re-election.

His plans to run for reelection has frozen the field of potential Democratic contenders for 2024 and could mean a late start to the primary process if he changes his mind, the Hill reports.

“You certainly have to take him at his word that his intention is to run again, but four years is a long time,” said Mark Longabaugh, a veteran Democratic campaign operative. “It creates an interesting dynamic if he decides to step aside. That decision would likely come very late and would truncate the nominating process, creating a potentially difficult environment. I think there will be pressure on him to formally announce his decision by the spring or summer of 2023. He would just be making himself a lame duck and giving up too much of his presidency if he announced that before.”

53 percent of Americans approve of the job Biden is doing, an increase of 3 points compared to mid-February, according to new polling from Yahoo News/YouGov.
