Why the Titans Will Win

Ryan Tannehill still has a solid 20:3 TD:INT ratio, but his passing yards have dwindled over the past two weeks. This could be a case of opposing teams figuring out the Tennessee offense and making the requisite adjustments, and few teams bring as much defensive intensity that the Ravens bring. The running game continues to prosper, as Derrick Henry already has 946 rushing yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jayon Brown leads the team in total tackles with 73, while Malcolm Butler leads the team in solo tackles with 49. Harold Landry III has 6 ½ tackles for loss and 2 ½ sacks. The Titans have a defensive specialist in their head coach (Mike Vrabel), and the Titans come in with three more days to rest and prepare for this matchup. Given how poorly the Ravens performed on offense against New England, the Titans could turn the screws on Baltimore here.

Why the Ravens Will Win

The Ravens looked sloppy in their loss to New England. Lamar Jackson had a decent outing but threw a costly pick near the end of the first half, ending a drive that could have brought points. The team also fumbled a couple of snaps in the second half, as the wet weather definitely played a role. For the season, Jackson has thrown 14 touchdown passes against just five interceptions. He also leads the team in rushing with 524 yards, while Mark Ingram II has run for 230.

The Baltimore pass rush is stout, as Calais Campbell has four sacks, and Matthew Judon has three. It’s also important to remember that the Ravens have plenty of motivation to get up for this game. After all, it was the Titans who shocked the Ravens in front of their home fans, knocking a 14-2 Baltimore team out of the playoffs in the divisional round in January. The Ravens have had plenty of time to circle this date on the calendar, and if you combine this with the loss to New England, Baltimore should come out with a giant chip on their shoulders.

The Final Word

This game should go at a grinding pace, as both teams try to chew clock and sustain long drives. I see the Ravens coming out with intensity and then holding on as the Titans get their footing, securing payback for January’s playoff loss.
