The poker world has lost a giant with news of the passing of player, commentator and game ambassador Mike Sexton late Sunday night.

Sexton was in home hospice as reported this past week.  The Poker Hall of Famer passed away from cancer.

According to Linda Johnson, who broke the news of Sexton's condition last week,  he died surrounded by family at home. "He appreciated all the wonderful comments and farewells from poker players all over the world," she wrote.

Sexton was weeks shy of his 73rd birthday. He moved to Las Vegas in 1985 and in 2009, he was admitted to the Poker Hall of Fame.
