Preview
After a scoring breakout in their last game, Real Salt Lake will look to keep the offense coming when they host Los Angeles FC on Wednesday night.
Real Salt Lake's first match of the MLS summer restart was a 4-1 rout of the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. Salt Lake scored all four goals within the game's final 33 minutes, with Maikel Chang coming off the bench to contribute a goal and two assists.
"(In the) second half we started off strong and one goal leads to another," said Justin Meram, who recorded a goal and an assist. "We kind of shifted the momentum into our favor once we got that first goal. You just saw the composure in good spots on the field."
Real Salt Lake (2-1-3, 9 points) had scored only four goals in four matches at the MLS is Back Tournament.
It was an entirely different story for Los Angeles FC (2-1-3, 9 points) in their first game of the restart. The team dropped a 2-0 result to the rival Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, marking only LAFC's third loss in 37 all-time regular-season home matches.
"To have a terrible game like that ... is something where we're looking hard at ourselves as coaches and thinking about all the details in terms of how we've been training lately, why certain guys are not in the form that they need to be," Los Angeles FC head coach Bob Bradley said.
LAFC's nightmarish outing included an injury to reigning league MVP Carlos Vela, who left in the 57th minute with an apparent knee issue. The extent of Vela's injury isn't yet known, though it is unlikely he will play against Real Salt Lake.
Eduard Atuesta (foot) and Andy Najar (knee) are also questionable for Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Douglas Martinez is questionable for Real Salt Lake. The forward was removed 15 minutes into Saturday's game with the Rapids after being hit in the face with the ball.
RSL will have defender Marcelo Silva back from a one-game suspension, while Kyle Beckerman is serving the second match of his two-game suspension.
Los Angeles FC has a perfect 4-0-0 record against Real Salt Lake in regular-season competition.
