Poker Director Matt Savage Convinced He Had Covid-19

Poker Director Matt Savage has had to deal with the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic and the possibility that live poker tournaments could be severely impacted for many more months to come.

To illustrate just how dangerous the virus is to poker players, Savage himself thinks he was exposed to it.  Though he fell ill a few weeks back, he recently took an antibody test that came back negative.  The indication being he did not have Covid-19.

Hundreds of events and series have been postponed or canceled since the pandemic began sweeping through North America in early March. On April 20 the 2020 World Series of Poker, was officially postponed.

“Everybody was expecting it at some point,” Savage said of the WSOP cancellation in an interview with Card Player. “I know that there were a lot of people out there betting on whether or not it was going to take place this summer. Not everybody felt like it was going to happen. You know, the WSOP is an important part of the poker landscape and the summers in Vegas are a big part of a lot of professional and amateur player’s lives. Even though we knew it was coming, it still kind of sinks your heart when you hear that they are moving [the series] and people won’t be coming to Las Vegas this summer.”
