Will Social Distancing Work With Live Poker? iPoker Set to Get 8 New Rooms

Online poker has exploded over the last two months since the coronavirus pandemic resulted in much of the world having to stay in their homes.

But while Web cardrooms thrive, what about the live poker rooms once they open after the pandemic?  Can social distancing really work in the live environment?

Four-Handed Poker

The health and safety guidelines from the Nevada Gaming Control Board state that each poker table will be limited to a maximum of four players, and proper disinfection and cleanliness should be maintained. This means casinos would need more dealers to facilitate the games and ensure that the tables, chips, and cards are disinfected on a consistent basis. As far as making money is concerned, this set-up will significantly reduce the casinos’ profits.

Will these social distancing guidelines in land based poker rooms be effective? Will casinos be able to enforce them consistently and will players be comfortable with playing in such a type of environment. This is up for debate.

At least eight skins on the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) will be moving to iPoker when the network closes in just under two weeks’ time, PRO has learned.

Only two of the sixteen skins have revealed their plans publicly to the media: Red Star Poker informed players and media some six months ago of its plans to move to iPoker; Olybet surprised with a launch on the GGPoker network last week.
