Arizona Won't Dare Touch Sports Betting in Wake of Shaw Scandal

As states across the US look to legalize sports betting, odds are good that Arizona won't go near the subject any time soon in the wake of the Josh Shaw scandal.

A three-team parlay that included an Arizona Cardinals game led the NFL in part to suspend Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw for violating the league's gambling policy, multiple sources told ESPN.

This story will be magnified in Arizona.  It will serve as a blemish on any attempt to legalize the activity in the state.

Arizona is already at a disadvantage as one of the states that must answer to the powerful tribes before lawmakers can even dream of offering sports gambling.

Ironically, the state's current Governor, Doug Ducey, is the grandson of one of offshore sports betting's most successful pioneers, Bill Scott of World Wide Tele Sports fame.

Shaw, who has not played since March of this year due to injury, made the parlay bet on Sunday, Nov. 10, at a Caesars sportsbook in Las Vegas, according to the sources.
