Mobile Sports Betting With In-State Operators to Start Thursday in Iowa

We knew sportsbooks were set to open on Thursday in Iowa.  We didn't realize how close they were to launching mobile wagering.....that same day apparently.

Brian Ohorilko, administrator for the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, told Legal Sports Report the following casinos are preparing to launch sportsbooks on opening day:

    Prairie Meadows
    Lakeside
    Isle Waterloo
    Isle Bettendorf
    Rhythm City
    Riverside
    Ameristar Council Bluffs
    Catfish Bend

A total of 18 casinos have applied for licenses to operate sportsbooks.  All should have their retail businesses up in time for the first week of college football.  Bets can be placed on Iowa's college teams and games that feature them, though player prop bets on games featuring the Hawkeyes and Cyclones will be prohibited.

William Hill properties include Prairie, Lakeside and the Isles as well as three casinos using Bet.Works as an online partner (Riverside, Rhythm and Grand Falls) are on track to start mobile Iowa sports betting as early as Thursday, Legal Sports Report claims.

Each of these properties could receive the green light to launch their mobile sites in conjunction with the brick and mortar sportsbooks.

The commission issued letters Monday authorizing the William Hill and Bet.Works properties that are expected to take mobile bets Thursday to accept sign-ups for advance deposit sports wagering accounts.

It also did so for PointsBet/Catfish and Ameristar for later.

For the first two years gamblers will need to register their online accounts in person at one of the casinos.

Those in Omaha, Nebraska will have easy access to the Ameristar Council Bluffs sportsbook but will be unable to bet online once they return to Nebraska.
