According to national authorities, the quake had an epicenter 11 km east of Puerto Armuelles, Panama. The seismic event began at 11:23 p.m. on Tuesday (1:23 a.m. ET).

There were no immediate reports of major damage or fatalities in Costa Rica.  The earthquake could be felt throughout the country.

Most wagering companies that operate in the country do so around the San Jose area, which was far from the earthquake epicenter.
