Scott Dixon is considered among the most consistent of Indy 500 racers.

“He’s not a five-time champ for no reason,” pole-sitter Simon Pagenaud said of Dixon, who captured the fifth of his NTT IndyCar Series titles last year. “You expect him to be there” in the front, Pagenaud said.

Dixon, 38, has the most wins of any active IndyCar driver, 44, one of which was the Indy 500 in 2008.

“I feel very lucky to have at least won it once,” Dixon said in an interview.

“There’s the feeling of wanting to win it the first time, and then once you win it the first time, it’s exaggerated even more,” he said of wanting to win a second 500. “There’s never the issue of the desire.”
