Arizona State- The 11th-seeded Sun Devils (23-10) will play Mid-American Conference champion Buffalo on Friday in the West Region, coming off their first NCAA tourney win in 10 years in a First Four matchup against St. John’s.
Buffalo- From ESPN.com: “The Bulls have one of the nation's most prolific offenses and compete with a blue-collar grit that mirrors the town in which the school is located. That never-back-down attitude has allowed them to deliver a bracket-busting blow to Arizona in last year's NCAA Tournament and upend brand-name programs West Virginia and Syracuse on the road this season.”
They add: "It has been months since the Bulls, the 2019 MAC daddies, have played a Power 5 squad. So one wonders what will happen when a talent-laden opponent blessed with a big-game pedigree can match the Bulls' intensity and shot-making ability. That said, it's hard to imagine Oats' squad not winning at least one NCAA tourney game this March.

Athlon Sports: "Skeptics are making Arizona State a trendy upset pick over Buffalo in their brackets. It would be a mistake to dismiss head coach Nate Oats and his team. The Bulls proved themselves in March a year ago. While Arizona State has plenty of big wins to its credit, the Sun Devils were also highly inconsistent during the regular season. The Bulls will find a way to put their stamp on the game and get another crack at reaching the second weekend of the tournament for the first time."

Winners and Whiners: "Arizona State has won four out of their last five games overall, and they match up well against Buffalo. The Bulls are a strong rebounding team, however, Arizona State ranks 12th in the country with an average of 40.2 rebounds per game, and they play in the tougher conference. Furthermore, while I give full credit to Buffalo for posting a 31-3 record, they do play in the MAC. Buffalo only covered in two out of their last seven games which included multiple narrow wins. In addition, the Sun Devils are playing stellar defense. They are limiting opponents to 40.9% shooting on the season which is slightly better than Buffalo’s field goal defense."
College Football News: "Buffalo stinks from the free throw line. It’s the Bobby Bowl, with the program Hurley helped turn into a MAC power needing to rise up and be fantastic against the team that’s growing into something strong in the Pac-12. Buffalo might be great on the boards, but ASU will hold its own while coming up with a whale of a defensive performance. The Sun Devils are playing with house money at this point, and they’ll play like it with a great combination of attitude and focus."
