Conor McGregor Arrested in Miami for Strong Arm Robbery

UFC star Conor McGregor was arrested and charged with strong armed robbery and criminal mischief late Monday afternoon for smashing an individual's cellphone who attempted to take his photo.

The incident allegedly took place around 5 am when McGregor was leaving the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, which is home to a popular nightclub.

When a 22-year-old man attempted to take a picture of McGregor, the UFC fighter slapped the phone out of the man's hand and then stomped on it several times, according to the police report. Investigators say McGregor then grabbed the phone and left the area. Police later found McGregor at his local address.

McGregor was being held on $12,500 bail.

McGregor's defense attorney, Sam Rabin, issued the following statement Monday:

"Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation involving a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation."

It's not McGregor's first bout with the law.  He had previously entered a plea deal in Brooklyn last summer stemming from an incident at Barclays Center on April 5, when he was caught on video throwing a metal dolly into the window of a bus stationed inside the loading dock.

Conor McGregor's bout with boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr in August 2017 was the most wagered on event in online sports betting history.

McGregor's lost his last fight in October at UFC 229 in Las Vegas to Khabib Nurmagomedov.  A post-fight brawl resulted in both fighters suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.  McGregor-Nurmagomedov was among the most wagered on events of 2018.
